Innovative talking Covid-19 Signage comes to Doncaster

A remote message change system allows messages to be changed quickly without visiting the sign location.

Doncaster Council investigated innovative ways to deliver social distancing rules in the town centre and regional shopping and hospitality locations. Talking Signs were chosen as part of their strategy as the solution had the potential to be impactful alongside traditional methods.

They chose to purchase the solar powered model which meant the long-term maintenance costs would be minimal and they required the option to change the recording from time to time so the message remains fresh and impactive and giving them the option to reuse the signs if they are needed for future Covid-19 public health and safety messages.

The signs are installed on lampposts and the messages are motion activated by passing pedestrians.

We installed 10 units in Doncaster town centre, Askern, Armthorpe, Bawtry, Mexborough and Thorne with the messages ‘Keep your distance. Remember Hands, Face, Space’ and ‘Shop local, Shop safe. Let’s Do it for Doncaster’.

Talking Signs are part of a range of measures Doncaster Council have taken to promote social distancing, hand washing and the use of face coverings, along with printed signage, social and traditional media. These measures have been funded by the European Regional Development Fund as part of the Reopening High Streets Safely campaign.
