OPOS-CAM: Summa upgrades S Class control system
Summa recently announced new advancements in its contour cutting alignment system for their wide format S Class series vinyl cutting plotters.
OPOS-CAM, using intelligent camera optics and camera control software, has been designed to meet the demanding needs of wide format graphics companies and inkjet printer manufacturers. The new camera upgrade option has been added to significantly increase speed and media options for Summa's premium line of contour cutting vinyl cutters.
OPOS, which stands for Optical Positioning System, was originally introduced by Summa in 1995 as the optical alignment system for contour cutting devices. OPOS alignment is made possible by scanning registration marks on printed images. A sensor or camera, which is mounted on the cutter head, scans each mark. Then the cutter's own internal programming recalculates the plot data to adjust for position and rotation.
Additional on-board intelligence compensates for scale variations between the printer and the cutter by dynamically rescaling the plot data to exactly match the printed image. The end result is a highly automated and accurate means of contour cutting printed vinyl graphics. OPOS-CAM, Summa’s fourth generation contour cutting device, is now greatly enhanced to increase workflow productivity when contour cutting printed graphics, signs, labels, vehicle wraps and more. OPOS-CAM technology delivers lightning fast marker recognition for complex images, and over very long contour cut job runs, by combining camera quality optics with highly intelligent recognition software called Summa Camera Control.
