Prismex panels supplied by William Smith regularly feature in installations created by The Light Lab, specialists in decorative architectural lighting features for a range of industries worldwide.

"Prismex meets our needs because it is a low-weight versatile product for creating slim lighting features, and has properties such as being able to be curved which are useful to us," explains Design Director, Marcus Cave. "It is also especially good for colour rendition when using red or white LEDs as opposed to glass, which even if low-iron, has a tint of green. The light transmittance is very good as the light travels further and is brighter than if using a glass product. Often we incorporate it into designs that have a glass front, which the Prismex back-lights."

The type of projects for which The Light Lab uses Prismex vary from retail and leisure to commercial or residential. Prismex has been used in applications such as lit wall features, lifts, reception desks, and floor tiles.

Marcus continues, "We order Prismex on a regular basis in varying measurements to use within our own bespoke lighting designs. We do not use the full light box service that William Smith offers because we are lighting designers ourselves. Therefore, we just need the raw product."

Prismex acrylic panels feature a patented dot matrix pattern on the surface of the material and a controlled angle of reflection. Maximum light span is 1500mm and the maximum size that can be printed is 3m x 1500mm with double light source along the longer edges. Prismex is available in a range of thicknesses from 5mm up to 20mm. William Smith's experienced staff will assist in selecting the appropriate material and pattern to suit your requirements.

Panels can be produced to any required size, with an average turnaround of five working days. William Smith also has a limited facility to cut to shape (contact William Smith to request more information on this service).

Luminedge edge-lit signs use Prismex and aperture tubes, which William Smith claims makes them significantly brighter than other comparable systems and ensure even light distribution across the whole surface of the sign. Units are available from William Smith in six designs including poster boxes and frame signs with hinged and lockable doors.
