MacroArt brings heart of London to life with vibrant mural

A richly coloured mural stands out between buildings of steel and glass

As part of the 12th Edition of London's Sculpture in the City project, large format print expert MacroArt has teamed up with Mtec Fine Art, at the invitation of exhibition organisers the City of London Corporation and Lacuna, to play a part in bringing a key site in London to life with Arturo Herrara’s stunning mural Untitled, 2020.

Made to contrast with the City’s steel and glass surroundings, Herrera's Untitled, 2020, is situated on Creechurch Lane in Aldgate and surrounded by some of London's key landmarks, including The Cheesegrater and The Gherkin.

Untitled, 2020, blends together sumptuous colours using high-quality UV inks, all meticulously sampled in MacroArt's on-site studio to find the perfect shades.

The MacroArt team printed the nine-metre by 21-metre mural onto self-adhesive vinyl using its Durst 512R printer with the artwork’s extraordinary colours designed to remain throughout the nine months it will be on show.

Installation represented one of the biggest challenges for MacroArt. Four installers worked across two days erecting the 190m2 mural, with a cherry picker mounted to the back of a lorry ensuring the artwork was accurately placed.

Sculpture in the City is delivered by the City of London Corporation alongside LACUNA, a leading cultural studio, which in partnership with local businesses turns England's capital into a sprawling sculpture gallery each summer.

MacroArt's Group Account Director, Mike Hamling, said; "We're delighted with how this latest mural has been received. The richness of the colours was paramount to this artwork's success as well as the accuracy of the installation on what is a challenging site. Our team worked extremely hard to help make this a reality, and we’re very proud of the result.

"Bringing vibrant artwork into the heart of London as part of the latest launch for the long-running Sculpture in the City is a thrill for us."
