In order to continue its training commitment, all appropriate courses have been adapted to take a new, online remote structure.

The Training Academy, part of William Smith Group 1832, is dedicated to help train and inspire people in the sign, graphics and interiors industries, with whom it’s been servicing for over 100 years.

Training courses covering a range of self- adhesive vinyl products are intended to develop skills for individuals at the beginning of or during their careers. Whether customers are looking to become a trained installer, learn how to sell vinyl products or simply want a taster for the products and opportunities in the marketplace, The Academy has a training course to suit. Training and application manager Gill Harrison leads all the courses, allowing plenty of time for questions and detailed insight.

William Smith is proud to have been providing training for over 10 years and not about to let a global pandemic stop them.

In order to continue its commitment, all appropriate courses have been adapted to take a new, online remote structure; underlining the company’s focus to help develop skills, introduce new services and boost businesses in the industries it serves. All Academy remote training courses are free.

Currently, The Academy offers a half-day, remote Vehicle Wrapping Theory course for complete beginners and ideal as a refresher for more experienced wrappers wanting to brush up on their knowledge.

Content includes the benefits of wrapping, basic technology of films, adhesive features, digital print and colour change films, how to choose the correct film for the job, graphic production and essentials for success.

Three remote training course options focus on architectural finishes. The half- day, Architextural Theory course, takes delegates through all considerations when applying architectural films. Topics include where you can/cannot use them; butt joints/overlaps; when to stretch the film; surface preparation; primers; pattern considerations; and aftercare, with tips and techniques throughout.

The six-hour Architextural Sales course for interior architectural finishes; 3M DI-NOC and Cover Styl’, provides an opportunity to learn how to sell the concept of these finishes and increase the chance of winning projects. This course is ideal for delegates looking to drive their business forward with architectural finishes, giving the knowledge and support needed when pitching films to potential clients.

A one-hour CPD is aimed at architects and interior designers. introducing the concept of Redesigning surfaces using film.
The CPD seeks to develop knowledge of architectural finishes and give a greater understanding as to why recovering existing surfaces with film is emerging in the market as a viable solution.

Moving forward, the Academy hopes to resume onsite training and the full selection of courses as soon as possible. In the meantime, the plan is to continue adding courses where suitable, to their online offering, beginning with a remote window film course launching in March.
