There was plenty to attract visitors to Spandex's Open House events in Bristol at the end of November.

The main highlights included Mutoh's new, versatile and cost-effective Kona series of high-performance multi-purpose vinyl cutting plotters; Spandex's just released range of textile marking materials; and the Epson Stylus Pro GS6000 inkjet printer.

Other enticements included demonstrations of Gerber's Solara Ion z flatbed wide format inkjet printer, free seminars and workshops, and the chance to win prizes such as design software, marketing consultations, training, software upgrades and discounts.

The Mutoh Kona series offers sign cutting and lettering, contour cutting and cut through on media widths up to 1890mm. Designed to meet the specific requirements of home, office or professional sign cutting applications, Mutoh's Kona Series of drag-knife cutting plotters provides users with what is described as a plethora of advantages, including superior cutting quality and excellent tracking.

Spandex is supplying the three models in the new Mutoh Kona range, all of which deliver advanced precision and performance for media up to 1mm in thickness. The Kona Series comprises the Kona SCL-760, offering a maximum sheet/roll media width of 1000 mm; the Kona SCL-1400 with maximum sheet/roll media width of 1640 mm; and the Kona SCL-1650, with a maximum sheet/roll media width of 1890mm.

All three Mutoh Kona variants feature Mutoh's integrated EPOS® (electronic positioning) feature as standard. As well as traditional vinyl cutting, this laser-based optical sensor technology allows users to benefit from automatic contour cutting of pre-printed signs and stickers. In addition, EPOS incorporates a cut through feature, giving the capability to create convenient individual stickers for promotional, instructive or informative purposes. For optimum user comfort, the Kona also includes a special print and cut workflow that is expected to practically reduce operator errors to zero.

Furthermore, Mutoh's new Kona cutting plotters are equipped with several features that afford increased functionality and ensure an efficient workflow; including an intuitive and user-friendly, fullcolour, multi-language LCD touch screen.

The Spandexsupplied Kona includes a two-year spare parts warranty, as well as various optional extras to enhance productivity.

Creating customised textiles can be a potentially lucrative market for sign makers, and it doesn't require much financial investment for a business that already has a printer and a cutter. Add a heat press and Spandex's textile marking films, and you're just about ready to go.

Spandex's new textile marking films, including Flex and Flock options, are an excellent cost-effective and time-saving alternative to traditional application methods such as screen printing and embroidery.

A wide range of coloured and specialeffect products with different surface finishes for application to a wide variety of substrates, including cotton, polyester and nylon, are now available from Spandex.

Congratulations to the companies that won Omega 3.0 software at Spandex - BMA Varisity, Oxford; DG Signs, Ipswich; Flagship, Pontypridd; and Griffiths Signs, Newport.
