LED Life expectancy eat your heart out :)

I was just thinking about the cost of running this for 70 years.
Due to Neon running cold, I don't think it would be that much.
Then I thought about what would fail, I guess the Neon could last that long as it does run cold and it doesn't have moving parts, but wouldn't it normally be the transformer that would fail first?

On another note, I just read about this:

This is a 'new plastic lighting source can be made into any shape, and it produces a better quality of light than compact fluorescent bulbs'.

It sounds ideal for built up letters. I know there is already flexible tubes with leds place through out them, but it does sound interesting.

Have a look at this link on a recent news report showing neon that is about 70 odd years old and has been running constantly all that time..... LED who ????
