Universal launches new illuminated flexible-face solution
The recognised market leader in the supply of aluminium extrusions for light box, flexible-face and post and panel sign and display systems, Universal Aluminium Systems, has launched its latest illuminated flexible-face light box solution. Called Wedgeflex, it has been developed in association with SignComp, reputedly the world's leading exponent of flexible-face signage technology and renowned for its SignComp™ Flexible Face Tensioning Systems that have assumed international benchmark status within this sector of the sign industry. Significantly, the systems are recommended and approved by all of the leading manufacturers of vinyl substrates.
The key component of the new Wedgeflex system is the Tension Clip. This is manufactured from DuPont Delrin industrial-grade plastic, is impervious to the most hostile weather conditions and greatly accelerates and simplifies fitting of the flexible sign face within the light box profile. The clip, which is reusable, consists of two elements (body and mandrel) and is applied direct to the vinyl substrate to eliminate the need for additional assembly work such as pocketing and/or eyelets.
Supporting this important design component is a raft of additional standard features that collectively set the Wedgeflex system apart from competitive products and contribute to a lifetime guarantee on performance. These include a special hinged cover plate for ease of fitting and maintenance and a secondary cover plate for shaping of the sign profile. Electronic gear trays that contribute to a reduction in energy consumption are also available as an optional feature. Sign illumination is enhanced by the use of a high-quality white interior backing material to generate maximum light reflection.
The aluminium sign box extrusion used in the system is manufactured to the ISO 9002 Quality Assurance standard and is available in a choice of either a architecturally-sensitive silver anodised and mill finish or powder-coated to any preferred RAL colour. Each sign box is earth-bonded and fitted with a fused terminal block on the mains outlet and incorporates European standard cool white fluorescent tubes.
Supplied in both single- and double-sided formats and with the availability of a Retro system to be announced shortly, the Wedgeflex solution is available exclusively to the trade either direct from Universal or via its primary stockists in a range of bar length extrusions or as a fully fabricated system. This latest flexible-face solution complements other options in the Universal range and will accommodate the company's existing light/standard-duty products.

Universal sets up network of approved converter partnerships
As a further indication of its commitment to the sign industry, Bristol-based Universal Aluminium Systems is entering into partnership agreements with a developing network of strategically located approved converters. The company is the recognised market leader in the supply of aluminium extrusions used extensively in multiple sign and display solutions and this new initiative will further reinforce its support for trade suppliers and provide regional conversion facilities that will be easier to access, offer a faster turnaround on finished products and consequently prove more cost effective.
To date, Universal has entered into agreements with Horizon Signs of Huddersfield, Positive Group in Poole, Western Signs Systems in Westbury, Wiltshire, Signfab (UK) in Leicester and NE Plastics in north Kent to cover London and the Southeast. An agreement with SignSystem in Navan, County Meath in southern Ireland has also been concluded and Universal would welcome the opportunity to arrange a similar conversion facility in Scotland and is open to discussions with potential partners.
