Special Abseiling Services offers alternative to costly access equipment
With more than 30 years experience between them as sign engineers, Andy MacIntyre and Chris Pitcher decided to set up what they believe is the only abseiling company in this country fully dedicated to the signage industry.
Special Abseiling Services Ltd has completed several assignments for companies including Blaze Maintenance, John Anthony Signs and Chase Signs, on contracts undertaken for Premier Travel Inn, Monsoon Accessorize Head Office and Holiday Inn.
Special Abseiling Services offers sign businesses the opportunity to make significant savings on the high costs of access to certain sites that would otherwise require road closures, traffic management, scaffolding, or self propelled access equipment.
One recent contract Special Abseiling Services won was from Chase Signs, to repair Holiday Inn signage on its high-profile west London hotel. Two signs were reported not to be working fully, one three storeys up and the other an eye-watering 27 storeys from the ground.
After surveying the site, a team from Special Abseiling Services set up the rigging required to reach the highest of the problem signs. Wearing full safety gear and harness, an engineer abseiled from the top of the building and soon diagnosed the fault. A section of neon glass was removed and replaced with a spare held at Chase Signs' neon shop.
To reach the second sign, on the third floor level, the engineer abseiled down from the seventh storey. All the neon glass was tested and the problem was found to be a transformer fault that Special Abseiling Services was able to change that day.
All works were completed and both signs left in full working order in just one day, without the need of expensive and intrusive access equipment other than standard rigging and safety harnesses.
