Roland DG (UK) announces winner of new VersaArt RS-640

Brett Newman, Roland DG (UK) congratulating Tim Eaves of Tim Eaves Signs on winning the VersaArt RS-640. Roland DG (UK), a leading provider of wide format inkjet printers, is pleased to announce that Tim Eaves of Tim Eaves Signs, Preston, is the winner of its VersaArt RS-640 competition. Roland DG (UK) launched the competition in September 2008 and Mr Eaves' name was drawn at random by Roland DG representatives at Viscom Italia 2008, Milan.

Valued at £12,000, the VersaArt RS-640 will be added to a Roland VersaCAMM SP-300 30" integrated printer/cutter already at Tim Eaves Signs.

Says Tim Eaves: "I'm absolutely delighted to have won this machine. It's going to make a huge difference to my business. The larger width of the machine means I will no longer have to outsource the bigger jobs that come through the door, which will dramatically improve my turnaround times and reduce costs. It will also allow me to grow my current vehicle lettering market and produce larger vehicle wraps and outdoor graphics."

"I came across the competition while looking at software upgrades on the Roland DG website. I had seen an RS-640 on display at my supplier's and read about its speed and quality in the trade press, so I entered the competition. That was back in September so I was very pleased to receive a call from Brett Newman at Roland DG who told me my name had been drawn at the Viscom exhibition in Milan."

Says Brett Newman, Head of Product Management, Roland DG (UK): "Congratulations to Mr Eaves. The VersaArt RS-640's speed and quality is un-matched by any other machine at its price point and it's the ideal machine for businesses wanting to break into new markets or boost production capacity, for what is a minimal capital outlay. I wish him every possible success with his plans for the new machine and look forward to catching up with him in a few months for an update."

Having evolved over the years, in some ways both Mr Eaves and his company represent the changes that also occurred in the sign making industry. While Tim Eaves Signs was established 12 years ago when he took over the family run company from his father, Mr Eaves started out 26 years ago with hand sign writing commercial vehicles. Noticing a significant drop in demand for hand lettering, he then purchased an early Roland PNC 1000 cutter, followed by a VersaCAMM SP-300 about four years ago.

While digital print signs have completely replaced the demand for hand lettering, Mr Eaves is able to keep the old tradition alive with bespoke heritage vehicles and church interiors.

Today, Tim Eaves Signs continues to specialise in vehicle lettering and graphics for car dealerships and commercial fleets - although using digital technology to produce them more quickly and efficiently. Advertising hoardings produced by Tim Eaves Signs are also on display at Premiership football grounds: Blackburn Rovers' Ewood Park and Everton's Goodison Park; and the Championship football ground, Preston North Ends' Deepdale.

The VersaArt RS-640 is ideal for producing a range of graphics from precision composite designs to large outdoor posters and banners. It can support a variety of substrates including highend proofs, vinyl for banners, textiles and eco-friendly papers. The printer also features Roland Intelligent Pass Control technology, which ensures image integrity even at higher print speeds.
