Vital Signs - a family business keeping up with the times

Getting the message across with livery on this van. In a fast moving world there is little time to absorb and digest information. Effective communication of an image is more important than ever before.

Vital Signs is a small family business based in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire. Owned by father and daughter team Nigel and Kirsty Hanman, they commenced trading in October 1997.

The business began by producing signs and labels using the methods of computer cut vinyl graphics, rotary engraving and screen-printing.

Over the last 10 years many other methods have been added and the company is now able to produce in-house signs, labels and panels that are chemically etched, digitally printed and laser engraved, as well as adding promotion wear printing to the range.

From the outset Vital Signs endeavoured to win customers on price, quality of service and the ability to look after customers properly. In-house training plays an important part of staff development and all staff are well trained, attending courses on such subjects as vehicle wrapping, business and management as well as health and safety, first aid and fire safety.

Investment in new machinery and modern technology keeps Vital Signs up to date with the latest trends. The most recent purchase is a new large format digital printer that uses eco-friendly inks, for banners, signs, and eye catching vehicle wraps, an excellent form of advertising for all customers. Prior to this, Vital Signs purchased a laser engraving machine that engraves more quickly and accurately than a traditional rotary engraver.

In September 2004 Vital Signs was awarded the ISO 9001:2000 quality accreditation and this has been reviewed annually. The standard has been vital for the growth of the business. Many customers, in particular high-volume label/nameplate users such as large aerospace, automotive and pharmaceutical manufacturers, demand "cradle to grave" procedures to be evident. In simple terms, records must be kept to maintain traceable information back through the chain of production including suppliers' methods.

Vital Signs created this stunning interior.

Expectations are greater than ever before with stringent safety standards and rigorous quality specifications, with Vital Signs continually exceeding customers' criteria. This has given the company a distinct advantage over the competition and their customer base includes many large aerospace companies, and has expanded globally with blue chip customers in Los Angeles (USA), Toronto (Canada), Pau (France), Foligno (Italy) and Osaka (Japan).
