Stylish Stylos for Sheffield City centre

An example of the Stylos fingerpost system. Superbly engineered Stylos fingerpost signs from William Smith have been specified by Sheffield City Council for an extensive wayfinding project. Around 35 Stylos units, incorporating special design features, are being positioned in and around the City centre.

The Stylos fingerpost is a highly adaptable multi-directional sign system, the popularity of which is ably demonstrated as a result of its adoption by numerous local authorities engaged in street refurbishment and town and city centre information and directional signage programmes. The system can be supplied either as a finished unit or in component form for on-site assembly and can also be used for other related applications such as boundary and sponsorship signs.

Each unit can have ‘fingers’ pointing in up to eight different directions and at various levels. A special fixing component makes it difficult for Stylos to be vandalised, while the arms or fingers can be removed and/or added to at any time. The fingerposts can be finished in any stove-enamelled colour to match BS, RAL and Pantone specifications to enable seamless integration of the signs into urban and rural environments. For areas of poor natural light or reduced lighting, Stylos is available as an illuminated variant.

For the Sheffield City centre project, the fingerposts were supplied in a brushed and anodised silver finish, with all of the arms stove-enamelled white and both faces covered with 3M Scotchlite reflective material protected by an overlay film. Each post had up to four arms to meet the directional requirements of the relevant area and featured the familiar Stylos 'Polo Mint' finial.
