Weeding Vinyl - Not exactly quick. 3 Years, 5 Months ago Karma: 0
My new cutting machine is quite good, but weeding the vinyl is not always quick. This is because as I am pulling it up, adhesive from the other side is sticking both sides together and pulling the unwanted side.

I have played with pressure which doesn't make much difference. It is currently set so that you can see a faint line on the release liner, so I know it is cutting through.

I am using oracal 751, among other vinyls.

This is not much of a problem, but is there anything that can be done to speed up weeding?

I have found that it best to do weeding shortly after cutting. It seems as though the adhesive joins up again, almost as if it is a runny liquid.

In warmer temperatures the adhesive becomes even more fluid and tends to rejoin quicker. This is not much of a problem except on a very warm summers day, which we have not had for a while.

When I do the weeding I pull from left to right. This does help a little with both sides being joined by adhesives.

This seems to work better than pulling from right to left depending on the exact letters used.
Slightly more letters than average like a p for example, start with a sharp corner on the top left, so easier to start pulling from there, rather than the rounded edge on the top right.

I would try a new blade. I don't know if you have done this. You say it is a new machine, so I don't know if you have had it long enough to change the blade.
It has been known for new blades to not be perfect anyway.

As above, do the weeding soon after the cutting.
