Magnetic vehicle signs - or persuade to use vinyl? 3 Years, 5 Months ago Karma: 0
A customer wants magnetic signs on his 2 vans, as he may want to remove them in about 1 or 2 years time and put them on new vans (assuming his business takes off).

I have removed a magnetic sign before but never put one up. Removing it was a nightmare, but it was old.

I am tempted to tell him that vinyl is best and say as the design work is already done, I can give a 30% discount on an identical sign when he wants it.

Any thoughts?

I know that they should be removed at least weekly and washed and dryed, but are there any other tips?

I would emphasize the requirement to remove magnetic signs regularly and suggest vinyl as perhaps the better option.

If you did go with mags, I have a few tips:

Round the edges to stop wind from getting under them at high speeds. Corners can peel sometimes and look a bit like dog-ears.
Not just clean, but dry and polish the application area with a high quality wax polish.
In hot weather make sure the customer know that it is advisable to remove them every day or 2.

Another tip:

Avoid any contoured areas, water and dirt can collect there, as well as wind getting under it and creating movement and fatigue.

Waxing both the surface where the sign will be placed and the back of the sign itself will help prevent damage.

Vinyl

If it is going on the side of a van it probably isn't going to be a small sign, so not so easy to put on and off.

Client has been talked out of it.
I gave a third off for a repeat identiacal sign, if he gets another van and wants it redoing.

Grateful for help.
